Awareness-Raising Activity on Forest Fire Protection at “Shaban Shabani” Primary and Lower Secondary School in Dragash
As part of its continuous engagement in community service and environmental education, the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren organised an awareness-raising activity at “Shaban Shabani” Primary and Lower Secondary School in Dragash under the theme “Forest Fires”.
The activity was carried out within the framework of practical professional courses and the course “Forest Fire Protection”, delivered in the Forestry and Environmental Sciences study programme.
The presentation was conducted by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Ylli Kortoçi and Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mirvjena Kortoçi together with third-year students of the programme. During the activity, pupils were introduced to the importance of forests for life and the environment, the main causes of forest fires, the ways in which fires spread, as well as preventive measures and appropriate responses in emergency situations.
Particular attention was given to the role of human responsibility in preventing forest fires and to the importance of environmental education among younger generations as a key factor for the long-term protection of forest ecosystems.
Following the presentation session, the activity continued with an educational visit to the Fire Brigade Station in Dragash, where students had the opportunity to become familiar with firefighting equipment, vehicles, and intervention procedures used in forest fire emergencies.
Through activities of this kind, the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences continues to contribute directly to the community by connecting academic knowledge with practical education and promoting public awareness for the protection of forests and the environment.
