FLES Takes Part in the First National Forum on Wood Biomass
Representatives of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences (FLES) participated in the First National Forum on Wood Biomass, titled “From Forest Residues to a Circular Bioeconomy”, which was held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Hotel Emerald in Prishtina.
At this forum, FLES was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mirvjena Kortoçi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ylli Kortoçi, along with students of the Forestry and Environmental Sciences study program, who had the opportunity to attend professional presentations and high-level discussions on the role of wood biomass in sustainable development and the transition toward a circular bioeconomy.
The forum was organized by CNVP Kosovo within the framework of the project “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development” (SUNREED), supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Prishtina (Sida). The event aimed to create an inclusive platform for interinstitutional coordination, policy dialogue, strategic planning, and the sharing of best practices in the sustainable use of forest biomass.
The forum brought together representatives from central and local institutions, international and local experts, the private sector, international organizations, and civil society. Special attention was given to the experiences of European Union countries such as Sweden, Austria, and Slovenia in efficient forest management, biomass mobilization, and the development of modern biomass-based heating systems.
FLES’s participation in this forum contributes to strengthening the link between higher education, scientific research, and public policies, as well as to preparing students for the challenges and opportunities related to the sustainable management of forest resources and the development of the bioeconomy in Kosovo.
