Study Visit of Students from “Haziz Tola” School to NaBiLab
As part of educational activities and cooperation with schools, the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Prizren “Ukshin Hoti” hosted 8th grade students from SH.F.M.U “Haziz Tola” in a study visit at the Nature & Biodiversity Lab (NaBiLab).
The visit was organised upon the school’s request, in support of a student project entitled “Assessment of biodiversity in the school garden”, with the aim of providing students with direct insight into scientific methods used in biodiversity studies.
A total of 50 students participated in the activity, accompanied by three teachers, including one biology teachers. Due to the number of participants, the activity was conducted in two consecutive sessions.
The activity was led by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Albana Milaimi, with the support of students from the Faculty’s study programmes “Forest and Environmental Sciences” and “Agrobusiness”.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to:
- learn about fieldwork methods in biology;
- observe the process of plant collection and herbarium preparation;
- explore insect collection techniques and their examination using a stereomicroscope;
- become familiar with basic principles of species identification using botanical and zoological keys;
- observe animal collections available in the laboratory.
The activity was conducted in an interactive format, encouraging discussion and active participation, and was supported by visual materials and practical demonstrations.
This visit represents an important step in strengthening cooperation between the university and schools, as well as in promoting environmental education and scientific awareness among young students.
