FSHJM Finalizes the New Natural Sciences and Biodiversity Laboratory
The Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences (FLES) has successfully completed the creation and finalization of the Natural Sciences and Biodiversity Laboratory, a modern and integrated space that includes the Herbarium, the animal collection, as well as specialized equipment for fieldwork and laboratory use. This project represents a significant step in the development of the faculty’s academic and research capacities.
This achievement is the result of collaboration with the University of Konstanz, Germany, and thanks to the generous donation from Prof. Gregor Schmitz, FSHJM has gained a rich collection of animal species found in Kosovo, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and various invertebrates. The collection features taxidermied and preserved animals, skeletons, hides, insectariums, products created by forest pest insects, literary materials for species identification, and equipment for both field and laboratory work, making the laboratory a comprehensive center for scientific study and practical exercises.
The laboratory will serve as an important hub for teaching, scientific research, and practical activities for students of the Forestry and Environmental Sciences program, supporting the instruction of courses in animal and plant biology, ecology, and environmental sciences. It will also be a valuable resource for FSHJM’s academic staff, contributing to scientific research and community projects.
FLES extends special thanks to Prof. Gregor Schmitz, taking full responsibility for the maintenance and further development of this laboratory under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Albana Plakiqi Milaimi and the faculty staff.
This important achievement strengthens FLES’s capacities in education, scientific research, and biodiversity conservation, creating a rich and practical environment for students and academic staff and contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and practices in Kosovo.
